accessiblity
seth and i briefly touched upon this subject during my afternoon “must get away from cubicle” jaunt around the office. before digressing into a conversation about dennis miller co-hosting monday night football, we made bold statements (well, i went out on a political limb and seth nicely backed me up) about how the sites our company is involved in design or development of should be accessible. well, here’s one thing i hadn’t considered apart from the more apparent audiences concerned: the color blind. take a gander.

we are experiencing technical difficulties
thanks to our decision to leave c i host (who i recommend avoiding based on my personal experience) in favor of vservers/hostpro (who I recommend using based on my personal experience). turns out the one thing c i host does well is terminate accounts with alarming speed…

anyway, pardon the dust. some things won’t work right away (gotta find those f@#^&!in cgi scripts!) so please bear with me. in the meantime, i’d like to thank everyone for your nominations for me to be your next president. c-ya in philly!

overheard walking into work this

overheard
walking into work this morning: “this is a strange world we’re born into.” i resisted the urge to turn around to see who was making proclamations at 7:06am (according to the bank clock) on the other side of the circle — i preferred to leave the voice disembodied, letting it take on a more prophetic quality, more mysterious, more intriguing. perhaps it was one of the stone figures clad only in the modesty of history, bearing the weight of the sea in the middle of the dupont fountain who whispered this admonition to me…

you see, this is how fiction is born — while i did in fact resist the urge to see who uttered such odd morning words, they were actually overheard north of the circle as i was crossing r. the dupont circle fountain is a little more dramatic setting — easy enough to move the occurrence south a couple hundred feet or so, easy enough to make the speaker mysterious instead of the awkward teenager he sounded like. easy enough to make reference to the clock i couldn’t actually see until i was south of the circle…

i love this. i love the creative process. i love seeing how my mind picks and chooses from the environment, how it filters the senses, how it repackages them all in little groups of words — i’m glad i don’t depend on this for a living; i’m afraid it would lose its sense of wonder.

molly
we miss you. please write. everyone says hello. cullen suggested i put a “molly” link on this site. well, see that tiny little light green square in the upper right-hand corner? that’s for you. use it when you have a second. and don’t try telling us they don’t have the internet over there in england. we all know better. it’s not like you’re in canada (america’s largest national park).
