Easy. Go to Cal’s last game with Bill. Okay, so I didn’t go with Bill, but he did make a surprise guest appearance and delivered some of the best words I’ve ever heard him speak…and I suspect it’s because of the simple honesty behind them:
Finally, former president Bill Clinton joined the tribute. “At this challenging time for our country,” he said, “Cal Ripken is a model to the game of baseball, [a model] of loyalty to his team, but most important, he is the kind of man every father wishes his son would grow up to be.” At those words, Ripken, sitting on a dais on the pitcher’s mound with members of his family, put his head down and hid his eyes.

P.S. The game itself sucked…it’s tough trying to cheer for Boston and the O’s at the same time…if only Brady hadn’t gone down swinging, Cal would’ve had one last at bat. Ah, well. I’ve never heard the fans chant in unison like that before…truly impressive.
