Inter-American Commission on Human Rights finds U.S. in violation of human rights
Friday, February 13th, 2004As reported earlier this week in a billion other places around town, the Organization of American States lent a significant — yet largely symbolic — victory to the DC statehood movement. (Say what you will about that fact that the petition was submitted 10 years ago.)
Here’s the important part: “…after having examined the merits of the Petitioners’ claims, the Commission concluded that the State is responsible for violations of the Petitioners’ rights under Articles II and XX of the American Declaration by denying the Petitioners an effective opportunity to participate in their federal legislature.”
What does this all mean? Mostly, nothing.
