Ever since the demise of Arbor Bar I’ve been looking for a new regular hangout. There have been some contenders in the neighborhood: Soussi, Mantis, The Reef (my fave prior to Arbor); but lately one place in particular has pulled ahead of the competition. Which is why for the last three weeks, Thursday evenings find me sitting at the bar at LeftBank.
Nothing in particular happens on Thursdays that I’m aware of (other than the Thursday martini specials) at LB, it’s just I’ve fallen into this habit of stopping by on Thursdays. (Okay, it doesn’t hurt that the bartenders are easy on the eyes — hey, I’m not so shallow that I didn’t notice their pleasant personalities, too.) In fact, I might have to organize a Life in the District happy hour there next week. But I digress. Leftbank has a pleasant atmosphere: kind of a mod retro chic moonbase alpha thing going on, decent music, good food, good drinks…granted, it’s a little pricey, but it’s worth an occasional visit. Oh, and it’s spacious. Lotsa elbow room. My elbows are deadly weapons, so that’s key.
Anyway, LeftBank makes the list.
I like the Wendy’s “Ranch Tooth” commericals. They make me laugh. But, I don’t like them this much. Ah, eBay, the barometer of our culture.
So, someone has come up with yet another useless Google Maps application. Find out where you would end up if you dug a hole through the earth. Sadly, I would end up somewhere in the Indian Ocean.
Anyway, it’s good for a larf.
Finally saw my first Chevy HHR. I’m not sure how I feel about this “Heritage High Roof” — while Chevy’s clearly trying to break in to the retro market that Chrysler successfully wooed (or wowed?) with the PT Cruiser, I have to wonder if they can succeed given the apparent failure of the Chevy SSR — that’s “Super Sport Roadster.” (I actually like the SSR). Interesting (though dated) commentary on this December ‘04 Forbes.com article.
Oh, and for those of you who know I like to find the music behind the commercial (or go crazy trying), if you’re looking for the music used on the Chevy HHR commercial, it’s “Music Revolution” by The Scumfrog off of Simmer, which of course I’m listening to as I write this entry.
